As the budget for the year 2024-25 was tabled in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly today, the Tamil film industry was given a big boost as a State-of-the-art Film City is confirmed to be set up soon. Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu has announced that a huge film city will be set up near Poontamalli at a cost of Rs 500 crore.
For many years, it has been urged by several celebrities from Kollywood calling for a film city to be set up in Tamil Nadu like the Ramoji Rao Film City in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh. It is well known that big budget films of Ajith Kumar, Vijay and Rajinikanth are mostly shot in other states that results in job losses for the local workers.
Thennarasu in his speech stated that the state-of-the-art facilities will be created in the proposed new film city and that will be very useful for Tami cinema. He further added that the facility will be established with the participation of the government and private sector. This announcement has received a great response from the film industry.
It is noteworthy that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin had already promised that a film city would be set up near Poontamalli in Chennai when he spoke at a function held in Chennai last month.
