Rashmika Mandanna, one of the leading actresses in South Indian cinema last year became a victim of cyber crime. A deepfake video of her was circulated depicting her in an inappropriate way and she immediately lodged a complaint with the cyber crime police. The cops took instant action and arrested the video creator Eemani Navin.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has now appointed Rashmika Mandanna as the National Publicity Ambassador of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre. In a video posted on her Instagram page about the appointment, the 28 year old stated “Cybercrime is a dangerous and pervasive threat that affects individuals, businesses, and communities worldwide. As someone who has experienced this, I am dedicated to raising awareness about these issues and promoting the message of cyber safety to drive positive change. It is crucial that we come together to combat these threats and protect our digital spaces.”
The ‘Pushpa’ actress added “It is very important that we all work together to prevent these cyber crimes. I learned that my deepfake video going viral on the internet is a cyber crime. After that, I decided to fight against it and create awareness among people about it. I am grateful for the support I have received from the Government of India. We have to be aware and safe,”.
In this regard, the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a statement saying, “The Ministry of Home Affairs is confident that Rashmika’s influence and commitment will make a significant contribution to the national campaign against cybercrime.”
One the film front Rashmika’s upcoming film is going to be ‘Pushpa 2’ is going to hit the screens worldwide on December 6th. She will next star as female lead in ‘SK24’ directed by Cibi Chakravarthy and starring Sivakarthikeyan as the hero. Filming is set to begin in November.
